Sloop Dental Co. Honored with the 2017 Southtown “Up and Comers” Award

Southtown CouncilWe’re proud to share that Sloop Dental Co. was recognized by the Southtown Council and Southtown Foundation with the 2017 Southtown Up and Comers Award, honoring new businesses and investments that make a splash and help improve our Kansas City community, especially in Waldo, Brookside, and Southtown.

According to the Southtown Council, “Sloop Dental Co. was selected for breathing new life into a long-term institution and approaching business with neighborhood values in mind.”

When Dr. Jackie Sloop found an opportunity to work within walking distance of her home, she knew it was the perfect fit. In September 2015, she took over Dr. Throckmorton’s 30-year practice, located in a 1925 residential structure that had been converted into an office in the 1980s. With its last major updates completed decades ago, the property was ready for some fresh care and attention.

As a local resident, Jackie was mindful of balancing commercial use with residential neighborhood values. Renovations (including a lot of sweat equity by she and her husband, Michael) have included re-painting and staining the building, improvements to the entry, redoing the landscaping, and working with BikeWalkKC to install custom Sloop Dental bike racks.

Inside, the office was redesigned to feel welcoming, functional, and family-friendly, balancing the comforts of a home with the quality of modern dental care.

The result? A bright, comfortable, and eco-conscious practice that preserves the residential character of the building, fits beautifully into the neighborhood, and reflects the values Sloop Dental Co. was built on: integrity, community, and care for people and the planet.
